New Horizon Animal Hospital

Business Name: New Horizon Animal Hospital
Website:

New Horizon Animal Hospital strives to provide the same level of service available in a big city, and judging by the rate at which they're growing, they must be successful.

Owners Dr. Philip Puskarich and Dr. Jim Moore opened the hospital in their new 6000-square-foot location in March 2007, after originally opening in the smaller (1300-square-foot) facility in front of their current location on May 22, 2006. Dr. Puskarich explains that while in that first space, on nice days they'd have patients lined up out the door and would give vaccinations on the benches in front of the building. These days, space isn't so much of an issue, although they are somewhat surprised at how quickly they've filled and started to outgrow their new location.

New Horizon Animal Hospital's facility includes 2 surgery suites, a dental room, 5 exam rooms, an isolation ward (for cases of infectious diseases such as parvo), and 14 boarding runs.

Drs. Moore and Puskarich and the other 5 veterinarians on staff - Dr. Alison Bertram, Dr. Jen Baumgardner, Dr. Scott Baumgardner, Dr. Paul Schwartz, Dr. Tanya Hanna - are all graduates of The Ohio State University. In addition to these 7 doctors, the hospital employs 32 staff members to care for their patients. On an average day, they see 123 patients (95% of which are cats and dogs) and have 8 IV pumps running on patients in the around-the-clock intensive care unit.

Dr. Moore says they're blessed with and very proud of the employees and how much their help enables the doctors to have extra time to focus on the best patient care and direction for the practice. In addition, he says he enjoys the atmosphere of working with so many doctors because they all take and give advice well and help each other.

The most common surgeries they perform are spay / neuter, tumor removal, and dental cleanings. Dr. Puskarich points out that they also perform a number of treatments that most local veterinary clinics do not, including orthopedics, oncology, and blood transfusions. Dr. Moore comments that one of the aspects of veterinary medicine he enjoys is that they get to perform a patient's total care from exams to surgery, as opposed to human doctors who specialize. He goes on to explain that they strive to provide the amount of time needed to educate pet owners on conditions and treatment options and to provide multiple treatment options to address owners' financial considerations.

New Horizon Animal Hospital is located at 52635 High Ridge Road in St. Clairsville and their phone number is 740 695-8382. Their normal business hours are 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Sunday is open for emergencies only. In addition, a vet tech is on duty 24 hours a day and a doctor is on site from 9 a.m. to midnight.
