Since opening in 2005, R&M Auto Glass has doubled its business every year. This kind of success is no doubt a result of owner/operator Ron Bumgardner's passion and commitment to his auto glass replacement and repair company.
Located in St. Clairsville at 49761 Little McMahon Creek Road, R&M Auto Glass is a family-owned business with the "R&M" standing for Ron and his wife Mindy. Though the business started out with Ron as the sole technician meeting all of the needs of his customers, it has grown by leaps and bounds. The staff now consists of Ron and his wife Mindy; his mother, Darlene Bumgardner (accountant); children; Ashley Blake (office assistant), and Raymond Bumgardner (glass technician); and Brett Underwood (Raymond's assistant).
Ron started his business by himself, with no business loans, after 21 years of experience in the field. The business contacts he had made in his work experience leading up to the establishment of R&M Auto Glass, coupled with his knowledge of the area gave him access to what he needed to start a successful business. Since then, the business has flourished each year with the help of his family and a strong focus on customer service.
R&M Auto Glass is mostly mobile, with 95% of their business conducted by glass technicians who go out to homes or places of business to best accommodate their customers' needs. They even work some weekends and holidays to make sure their customers get the repairs they need in a timely manner. Ron says that he tries to maintain a turnaround time of less than 24 hours from the time they receive a call for service. In addition to all of these conveniences, R&M Auto Glass often goes above and beyond to help those who wouldn't necessarily be within R&M's service area.
In addition to glass replacement, R&M Auto Glass uses the latest high-quality resins for glass repairs which are usually covered by insurance. They are also approved by all insurance companies and work closely with them to directly bill insurance as an added convenience to the customers.
Ron takes pride in his work, which shows in his commitment to personally resolving any issues. While he won't say there is never a problem, he does his best to take care of every issue to the customer's satisfaction. He tries to routinely observe service calls to ensure quality. Ron says, "We're not the biggest, but we're the best."
Ron's plans for the future include considering expansion of their service area to include Cambridge, perhaps adding another crew, expanding their shop location, and offering plate glass products for commercial and home use such as table tops.
R&M Auto Glass has been a member of the St. Clairsville area Chamber of Commerce since June 2008, which has helped in interaction with other members, making contacts, and receiving referrals. When asked for advice for our other chamber members, Ron says that local businesses should support each other by dealing locally as much as possible.
