Mosaic Masterpiece coming to Ohio Valley Mall

2010-03-16 -

A very famous face will soon be smiling down from the Crafts 2000 court at Ohio Valley Mall, in St. Clairsville, OH. On Saturday, March 20, the Community Art Projects Foundation will assemble its unique mural of the Mona Lisa. What makes the project unusual is the fact that the mural is made up of individual squares painted by 80 different Ohio artists ages 18-88. Each square is a work in itself, but when combined with the others it re-creates the timeless image of DaVinci's Mona Lisa in a mural measuring 14 by 20 feet. Each of the 70 canvases represents the artist's personal view of the community.

The Ohio Valley Mall unveiling reception will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 in Crafts 2000 Court at 6:00PM.

The mural was unveiled in October 2009 at the Eastwood Mall in Niles, OH. Susan Jacobs, project director, said the artwork will now spend several months at the Ohio Valley Mall. "Though community murals of this type can be found in Canada, we have failed to find anything of this scope attempted in the United States and have submitted to Guinness World Records for review," she said.

The mission of The Community Art Projects Foundation is to raise awareness of the value of regional art by involving adult area artists in the creation of works that will benefit the community and bring about positive attention. Donations to the foundation may be made by checks payable to Trumbull Community Foundation and sent to Community Art Projects Foundation, Susan Jacobs, 3083 Fallehn Drive, Cortland, OH 44410.
