SUMMARY:Belmont County Sheriffs Residence Museum Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:The Belmont County Sheriff's Residence Museum is excited to announce the second event in its new lecture series. On Thursday\, October 8\, 2015\, at 7 PM\, Daniel L. Frizzi\, Jr. of Bellaire will be giving a presentation at the museum on King Solomon "Sol" White.\n\nBorn in Bellaire in 1868\, King Solomon "Sol" White grew up loving baseball. He was an avid fan of the local amateur team\, the Bellaire Globes\, and was invited one day during a game to play for them when one of their players had their finger smashed. He was attracting attention to his skills at the age 16 while playing for the Wheeling Green Stockings\, and in 1887 he joined the Pittsburgh Keystones of the National Colored Base Ball League. He would then go on to play for and also manage several teams\, and act as an executive in the Negro Baseball Leagues. In 1907\, White also wrote one of the first definitive books on the history of black baseball titled "History of Colored Base Ball by Sol White."\nDaniel L. Frizzi\, Jr. is a local attorney\, author\, lecturer\, award-winning historian\, adjunct professor\, and Chairman of the Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society. The Frizzi family has lent several significant pieces of Bellaire history to the museum.\n\n\n\n"We are delighted to have Dan speak at the museum\," commented museum curator Andrew Kirkland. "It is events like this that help to educate the public on little known and interesting local histories in Belmont County. We will be hosting more events such as this throughout the winter."
