The Belmont County Safety Council will hold a lunch meeting on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the J.B. Martin Recreation Center from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. This meeting will serve at the 10th meeting for the 2013-2014 program year. The cost of lunch will be $12 and advanced reservations are required to ensure that we have adequate seating and food for all of our attendees and speakers. Any Walk-Ins will be $15.
The speaker for this Luncheon will be Mike Mathers and Aric Bizzarri of the BWC speaking on Fraud Awareness.Mr. Mathers has been employed by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in the Special Investigations Unit since 1997 as a Special Agent with the Injured Worker Team investigating allegations of fraud and abuse committed by injured workers. During this time, Mr. Mathers investigated over 850 cases and referred 89 cases for prosecution which has saved the BWC nearly $15.5 million dollars. Mr. Mathers has been assigned many high profile cases involving multi-state fraud rings, identity theft cases and drug deception cases and has assisted on internal cases. Mr. Mathers also participated in the investigation of Tom Noe in the 2005 Coingate Scandal.
Prior to his work as a Special Agent, Mr. Mathers was employed by the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation as a Claims Service Specialist for four years. Special Agent Mathers has been a member of the International Association of Special Investigation Units for over ten years. Mr. Mathers holds a bachelors degree in Criminology from The Ohio State University.
Mr. Bizzarri has been employed by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in the Special Investigations Department since 2004 as a Special Agent with the Health Care Provider Team investigating allegations of fraud committed by health care providers. Aric is most recently a part of the multi agency taskforce headed by the Governor’s office investigating “Pill Mills”. Additionally, Aric was part of the team that successfully investigated and prosecuted Thomas Noe in the 2005 Coingate Scandal. Noe was convicted by a jury on a total of 29 counts and sentenced to 18 years in state prison, pay a fine of $213,000.00, repay cost of prosecution estimated to be $2.5 million, and pay restitution to BWC estimated at $13.747 million.
Special Agent Bizzarri is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a member of the national chapter of Certified Fraud Examiners and former board member of the Central Ohio Chapter. Prior to employment with BWC, Aric worked in the Fraud and Investigative Audit Group at the State Auditor’s office. Mr. Bizzarri holds a Master’s degree from Ohio University and an undergraduate degree from Muskingum University.

Even if you have prepaid for lunches for the year, please make a reservation.
