15th Annual St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce Academic Achievement Awards Banquet
The St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that we will hold our 15th Annual Academic Achievement Awards on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. This year’s banquet will be held at Belmont Hills Country Club and nearly fifty students were invited as guests of the Chamber of Commerce.
To be selected for this award, students must live in the St. Clairsville-Richland school district and must be a junior or senior with a 3.90 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.0 cumulative grade point average on a 5.0 scale, and attend St. Clairsville High School, Belmont Harrison Vocational Schools, The Linsly School, St. John Central High School in Bellaire, or East Richland Christian Schools. This year, students from East Richland Christian Schools, St. Clairsville High School, St. John Central High School and The Linsly School will be honored.
Students will receive certificates to commemorate their accomplishment. In addition, one senior will win a $500 scholarship and another will win a $250 scholarship. Winners will be determined by a random drawing from the names of the seniors attending the banquet.
Dr. Paul Abraham of Ohio University Eastern. Dr. Abraham is Dean of the Ohio University Eastern Campus. Prior to joining the Eastern Campus, he served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Ohio University Lancaster Campus, and in a similar role at the Kent State Stark Campus in North Canton OH. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and in computer science (before the days of Macs and PCs) at Youngstown State University and a Masters and PhD in mathematics at Kent State University. He was a faculty member for 14 years at the Kent State Stark Campus and helped to develop the first and only full bachelor degree in mathematics available at an Ohio regional campus. He entered the “dark world” of higher education administration in 2010.
“It is an honor for the Chamber to be able to highlight the tremendous accomplishments of such deserving academic achievers with this dinner. We are also very pleased to have Dr. Abraham as our speaker at this event,” says Wendy Anderson, President of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce.
